December 6, 2011 DARPA’s ADAPT initiative is looking to leverage smart device application developers to explore using the devices in the field as monitoring, tracking, networking and other surveillance relay functions. And the official Pre-solicitation December 5 Amazing. Team MIT has lived up to their reputation and snagged the Challenge championship in hours, rather than days. Nice work, fellas. November 30 On the I'm-really-dedicated-to-this-whole-thing front, the The Balloon Challenge iPhone app has been submitted to Apple for approval. On your GPS chipped iPhone, it will show you the properly formatted coordinates and make it easy to enter the competition, as well as giving you the option of reporting imposters if you should find 'em. If the stars are with us, it get's approved before the cometition. Stay tuned! November 28 So the numbers weren't ratcheting up quite as fast as I was hoping for with the Facebook group. So, in hopes of further spreading the word and the gift to our chosesn charity, I've changed the policy: Now for every Facebook Group member and Twitter Follower by 12/5 a penny will go to LLS.org. Hit the Twitter icon at the top right, and pleeeeease retweet like you mean it! November 26 Gobble, gobble, kids. DARPA was originally going to start team registration starting on December 1. Due to popular demand they decided to start it this week. Team TBC is now officially registered with the Network Challenge! Boo yah. November 22 Twitter rocks. I admit I wasn't certain the kind of response that would come from Twitter. But buy gum, today I was checking TBC's admin account and our first follower joined us and REtweeted theballoonchallenge.com! BTW, that reminds me that we do have a short link: bit.ly/IEETC. Thanks to twitter user toasted for getting things kicked off. It looks like she got the first wave of Facebook group members rolling as well. Awesome, considering this is a social networking experiment and I have yet to seriously start plugging it. November 21 One cent. As it turns out, the $1 for every 200 people outlined on the charity page has officially been changed for the better. It's now $1 every 100 people* thanks to a dollar for dollar matching grant from my employer. That's a penny per person for everyone who joins the Facebook group! Yea! November 19 I've decided to weave a charity together with TBC. For every 200 members who joins the TBC Facebook group, we're giving a dollar to LLS.org*. See the charity page for more detail. November 17 We're live! Gearing up for the actual event on December 5th, we're compiling lists of tools and relevant links, and have plans to have the membership option up in the next week. |
